Tannat is a heartier variety that contains high amounts of acid and tannin. Tannat is usually used as a blending grape but it has found a home in many wineries in Virginia as a varietal wine. Its abundant tannins and acidity are key factors that will allow this wine to age for a long time and hold onto its fruitier notes. It pairs well with grilled meats or game. Strong aromas of brambleberry followed by a touch of smoke lead to the same flavors of blackberries along with a touch of baking spice. The wine is held together with great structure and a full body that finishes with a lot of length on the palate.

I have been a PSW Wine Club member for the better part of the last decade. I've seen a lot of wonderful wines come from Paradise in that time. The 2018 Tannat continues to impress. Cherry/licorice nose that finishes with an elegant evolution of tannins that hangs on the palate for a while after each sip. It also offers a visually dense maroon color that is just gorgeous. This is a fabulous wine that exploits all of your senses and is very approachable now. It will be interesting to see how it behaves in the coming years. I would also argue that this wine is better than crafts from Uruguay (Bodega Garzon, comes to my mind) or wines from the Madiran region of France for that matter! I highly recommend this wine!
