Tannat is a lesser known variety from the Madiran region in southwest France. This 2012 vintage is entirely from our Williams Gap Vineyard and is designate on the label. Abundant with the aromas and flavors of plums, black cherries, and blackberries, the wine envelops the palate with good structure and body.

Content: 100% Tannat

*92 Points - Robert Parker's The Wine Advocate

"The 2012 Tannat was aged for 22 months in a mixture of neutral American oak and new French oak. It comes in at 14.7% alcohol. As much as I like the winery's other offerings, I find that it is their Tannat that makes my heart skip a beat. Now released, this is coming along beautifully. The oak is a bit too prominent, to be sure, but the wine should have no difficulty pulling it in. A big mouthful that lavishes flavor on the finish, it is well supported by a backbone and a certain crispness. It is still very unevolved. That said, some 90 minutes of air allowed this to show some gravel and earth. It became far more interesting, far more complex and far less oaky, showing refinement and finesse. This can be approached now, but it will still improve with a few years of cellaring. This just seems like a very upscale wine. There were 245 cases produced." - The Wine Advocate

Wine taste is always a bit subjective. However, this Tannat is Rob's best so far in my opinion. The tannin balance is exquisite. It has a bold nose of dense cherries/plum/tobacco with some sweet and sour in the middle of the tasting followed by a long mouth puckering tannin rich finish that makes your mouth water (but not bitter, it's sort of semi-sweet). He's outdone other Tannat wines in Virginia and it rivals wines produced in Uruguay where Tannat reins supreme - better than Bodegas in my opinion. This is my favorite wine from Paradise. You can't go wrong with this selection if you like Tannat!
